Architecture + San Diego

Here's just a handful of San Diego structures that caught my eye. A couple of the homes had me daydreaming about makin' babies......then showing them to the lawn-mower.

Sand Diego MMMMMMeals

It wasnt til i got back home [ ah, BK ] that i realized that i only had 4 meals my entire 2 days in San Diego! Jeez.

Predictably, i documented each.

1st MEAL: (above) I had right before jumping onto the roller-coaster at Mission Bay. It was a buffalo chicken sub, fries, and ginger ale.

i know - exciting.
2nd MEAL: Later on that day , after the art show, i headed back to my bed'n'breakfast around 3am. All day people were telling me i HAD to have Mexican food here.

At 3:15am - i did.

....and it was fantabulous. I forgot what i ordered, but you understand. Oh, and the side of SPICY carrot slices was a nice touch. I forget what the spot's name was.
3rd MEAL: The following day i met up with Nate [ The Love Movement ] and some buddies for brunch at Cafe Chloe. I had the poached eggs & wild mushroom and sage truffle buerre blanc......yes, i looked that up to confirm.

I happily accompanied the savory with 1 + 1 = 2 pomegranate mimosas. They were absolutely delicious. So delicious i had to take a over-buzzed power nap an hour later at a coffee shop a few blocks up.

sloppy, yet efficient!

Besides the great meal was a wave of great service - yes, wave. I got to kick it with Alison McGrath [ a proprietor ] about my man-crush on her current city. She even gave me some real estate leads.
4th MEAL: My good buddy Marge drove down all the way from Los Angeles to meet me for lunch. Good times!

We headed to Coronado to eat at Tartine - which a friend (San Diego native) back in NYC insisted i visit - pretty close to the water. the weather was (still) beautiful and the food was great. I had one of my favorite things to say, "...chicken cooked under a brick, please."

yummy,

The San Diego Art Show

Yes yes - my very first piece [ a collaboration with the wonderful Lichiban ] in an art show [Limbo Gallery ]....my very first time in San Diego!

Good times were afoot. The people were amazing. Not that i expected otherwise but it's always nice to acknowledge great people - especially in a new city. I was even high-5'ing folks BEFORE all the drinks settled into my bloodstream.

Barely awkward.
A whole lotta talent was on hand at the show.
For more on the show check out this vid of the show as well as better pics.

I have so many people to thank. Next time i see you we'll be sure to exchange nipple-to-nipple hugs.....especially The Love Movement.

Good Morning // 15

!! RODNEY'S AWAKE !!

Talk about a power-nap. Rodney's back - not at 100% but back enough for most of us to finally breathe a tad easier. whew.

What's crazy is that i had a dream about him last night (sans-erotic)...and so did Bahareh (perhaps erotic)...and SO DID Stephanie (who knows)!

7:28am - Lois (Rodney's mom) texts us that he finally woke up and was speaking.

The Power of Dreams.

ALSO - Neda (amazing) came up with the genius idea of starting a blog specifically for Rodney Friends & Groupies. Come and help spread as much positive energy as possible for El Rod!

1st Mission: Wooden Roller-Coaster

YES! So, lucky me - when i stayed at that Salt Lake City hotel for my layover there was a tv show on PBS that had a special on wooden roller-coasters. And guess where there was one? yep - San Diego.

So, the first (and only thing i planned to do besides go to the art opening) was to track this one down and tame it: ....good times.

Happy Veronica-day!

Our buddy Veronica was celebrating her day of birth this past weekend and although Jels couldn't make it, I made sure to represent the "Courtesy of" household.
The party was crazy and the dance-offs started eeeearly! I danced, I boozed and I tasted the best red velvet cake of my life.
Towards the end of the night I met this beautiful couple, Mark and Alicia (killer shoes, girl!) who've been together for 15 yrs and have 3 kids.( Future blast, Jels?) They told me with excitement that their oldest daughter (9yrs) had made her very first trip alone to the grocery store that day. Adorable. (Actually, she thought she had gone to the store alone before, but in the past - Mark had followed her all the way there and back without her knowing. Even more adorable!)

Killer night. I got home more drunk than when I had left the party and had a painful recovery the next day. Thanks Veronica, you know how to throw it down!

An evening with Jelsen and Stoli vodka

Wednesday night was just another day in the life of Jelsen Jargon. Music was blasting, people were boozing and Jelsen was working. This time around he was working in front of a crowd of over 1000 people who all came out to watch these four awesome designers...design. He teamed up with our buddy Guillo and together they made us "oooh", "aaah" and giggle.

Montel smoked himself to tears

Thanks to Jelsens old friend Nydia, who works for MPP, we got tickets to this benefit party last week. Jelsen had previous engagements so I brought Alexis with me instead. We thought it was a sit down dinner, so we came hungry. Very hungry. And when we discovered they were only passing appetizers, we stationed ourselves by the kitchen entrance with free drinks in hand and waited for the trays to come out.
We also got to see Kurt Loder ("MTV news, ten to the hour every hour"-dude!) speak about why he thinks medical marijuana should be legalized (heart warming stories sent to him by Nydia to share with us) . Montel Williams also did a speech and cried not only once, not twice...not three times...but FOUR! WTF?! First time , my eyes were a little moist too...but the way he kept doing it was so...fake! I couldn't believe what I was seeing, so out of line and dramatic! He needs to be back on TV asap.
At least he brought a pretty date.
Lex and I had to leave early because we had a more important party to get to. You can read all about it in the next post!
